Style is what remains once chaos put you down #8 (Edgar Hilsenrath, 1926 - Leipzig, Germany / ...)

Behind the Shoah, crude irony is a supreme self-defense attitude. But being a poor German Jewish immigrant and mastering crude irony is not sufficient in post-war New-York to put materialist women -i.e. the American dream- in your bed. Hilsenrath concludes: 'Fuck America' and - like the novel's character Jakob Bronski- finds his way back to Germany. To start a new adventure: adjusting German language to his world of crudity and irony.
